Celebrating the life of
Sarah Jane Neiman
February 13, 1953 - November 23, 2024
Sarah Jane Neiman was born 13 Feb 1953 in Waltham, MA and moved with her parents, Eugene and Carmen, and brother Eugene, to Natick MA. Her father, a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, was soon assigned to Rhein Main AFB, Germany. The family sailed there on the Maurice Rose and after three years flew back (3 refueling stops) to the USA. After a summer with relatives In Pennsylvania, the Neiman family moved to Albrook AFB, Panama Canal Zone, from where they took occasional boat trips to visit family members in Guayama, PR. The next move came after four years. Asked where they wanted to go, Sarah and her brother said “Disneyland”. Then as now there were no AFBs in Los Angeles, but Mr. Neiman, a military contracts specialist, secured a spot at the El Segundo AF Station and the family settled in nearby Hawthorne, CA.
Now in her teenage years, Sarah attended Leuzinger High School starting in 1967. She attended the FIDM-Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising to become a “buyer” for department stores, but after graduating switched to work in the Aerospace industry (TRW, Hughes, later Northrop Grumman) where she was promoted into a managerial position. As a Senior Business Manager on several critical Defense Satellite Development programs at TRW, she played a crucial role in the management, launch and deployment of key national assets that are critical to the United States security. In addition, she was the manager responsible for advanced surveillance systems critical to our national defense. She was always appreciated and respected by her peers for her energy, sense of humor and commitment.
On retiring in 2011, Sarah researched more affordable locations and, with three friends, moved to the Landings on Skidaway Island, GA, where she lived with her mother and the second of her beloved Labradors, Holly, and Bella Luna. Sarah passed after a long illness on 23 Nov 2024.
Sarah became a friend to me through my business in Sandfly many years ago. I always enjoyed her visits to my shop, Cents & Sensibility. I am sad to hear of her death. She will be missed. Thank you Bob for letting me know.
